I’ve never been a huge fan of running, especially on long stretches of pavement.  There a plenty of purists out there that don’t (won’t) deviate from the streets but that’s not me.  I recently read where Rich Froning (Crossfit Champion) and Melissa Arnot (world record holder for most female Everest summits) have similar thoughts about the sport, so it’s good to know I’m not alone.  In all cases, me included, we CAN run, which doesn’t mean we LIKE to run.  In fact I’ve won several races (trail, track, etc.) and usually always finish among the top finishers.  I’ve also ran 2 marathons (not awesome times), relay races, adventure races and the Alcatraz Challenge (swim/run).  For years I’ve been baffled by it but for some reason I’m not wired to enjoy the sport.  6-8 miles is about where my mind starts to drift and I become completely bored with the monotonous forward stepping.  Treadmills are out of the question since I really don’t do much indoor training.  I don’t want to discourage people from running and I definitely put in my weekly mileage, but it’s about finding the right state of mind.  I tend to put on a good music mix and explore different trails, plus bring Bella (golden doodle) along to keep me occupied.  And I really just run to fill the cardio gaps between hikes and climbs.  So in short…not a fan, but will continue…

Hebrews 12:11-13 –

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.
